Hi everyone !

Me and my boyfriend currently live in Murrieta Ca and are considering moving to Colorado, specifically the Fort Collins area. We simply cannot afford to live here and thrive like we would like too and want to start a new adventure. I am looking at Fort Collins because I see there are tons of stuff to do in nature and actual seasons, instead of it just being hot ALL THE TIME. We are in our Mid 20’s with no kids and want to be somewhere beautiful but also want to go out and have fun. I am a hairstylist and he is currently working in a warehouse. A huge part of us moving would also be for him to go to school full time for environmental studies. What are the schools like out there? Which one should we look into? I know CSU is a good school but what about community colleges?

Also a large concern of mine is the job market out there. I’m a hairstylist and have no idea what the work is like out there. Also my boyfriend who usually works at warehouse, but a big part of our move would be for him to start doing something related to nature and what he wants to be eventually. Are there full time jobs for him such as working the Ski lift or slopes, nature trails, etc?

As far as housing goes I’m looking into apts around that area a one or two bedroom. From what i see they range from about $900- $1,300. Is that correct and is there other areas close to Fort Collins with cheaper housing?

I’m also up for suggestions on other cities in Co that might be a good fit for us! Ive never been but it looks so beautiful. Thank you in advance !

Compare you total college degree expenses as a state resident at CSU, then run the numbers for state resident @ nearby U of Wy!!!

I trust you will seek the cooler climate with no state income tax.
It is a great school, and I hire WY grads anytime I can find them.

Btw... there is a lot more accessible outdoor (uncrowded) recreation in WY!

Bring your CDL.s and get great employment while you gain residency.

As a hairdresser you should be able to find work easily. We have had so many people moving here that both hairdressing and warehouse jobs (if that is a temporary fix) should be available. If you want to be close to ski lifts Ft Collins would probably not be the most accessible city in that regards.

I love Ft Collins, it is a college town so it has that vibe going. I would say prepare for the higher end on your rent range. However, you could check out Loveland which is right next door to Ft Collins and could be a touch more affordable. Ft Collins has some awesome breweries, distilleries etc.

Longmont is a great town too on the north end. Lots of breweries/places to hang out at, closer to the mountains and downtown Denver. It is also close to the new Amazon facility that is opening in Thornton which could be a good stop gap for your boyfriend and close to Boulder for good education options, rent will be a little more expensive in Longmont though.

I hope this helps!

It might work, but keep in mind that thousands others like you are descending on the town, and will be competing for those jobs. Much of the year is very cold, so hopefully you won't mind the chill. Rents will likely be in the thousands, with lots of competition. Neither nature jobs or hair stylist jobs pay much, which will be tricky paying bills. Costs keep going up here too. Definitely run the numbers and think budget before jumping ship. Some here really don't like people from CA.
