I am looking for a part-time job Nights/weekends. Does anyone know about the benefits for working at any of these stores? The benefits on the career page are vague.

I currently work for winn Dixie and I would recommend not working for this company. They don't care about their employees. It's not bad for a temp job until you find something better but as far as more than a year I would say no. I've been here 6 years and i got accepted at publix and the starting pay for me is higher than what I make here by 75cents plus the dollar extra on Sundays at publix. The benefits are much better at publix and the 401k from what I hear is incredible. I currently work for winn Dixie and I would recommend not working for this company. With time work with Publix is what you want. Great company to work for. Will likely have to start of part time, with no benefits.

I know someone who made it up through Publix to regional management, and they do have pretty good benefits for full time. But like Kalbo said, you probably have to start part time without benefits unless you have prior management experience.

Publix does promote from within, but you have to start part time for the most part. I hear there is a lot of potential there, but conversely Winn Dixie is considered a pretty dead end job. They do fill management positions from the outside, but the salary isn't any higher than a checker at Publix for the most part, and I find it to be an unpleasant place to shop. The employees there don't seem too helpful or happy, unlike Publix.

My friend's wife has worked for Publix in one of the specialty departments for several years. She's on her feet all day and always tired. It's my understanding that as employees leave, they attempt to get existing personnel (including her) to take on more hours rather than hiring replacements. Whether you're looking for a full or P/T job, you're probably better off behind the registers than in a specialty department.

I worked @ Winn-Dixie when I was 14, so about 13 years ago.

Winn-Dixie stores are mostly in the hood.

There isn't a future in working there, even with plenty of customers---they still manage to go out of business.

There used to be a Winn-Dixie in Oakland Park,FL (between Andrews & Oakland Pk Blvd) that closed down. No real warning, just drove by one day and BAM -----Big Ol' Sign that said "75% off everything must go".... I thought I had missed a hurricane warning or something, the store was picked clean. Very weird to see a grocery store with no stock.

I don't even understand how they stay in business, Albertson's too (overpriced, though the chicken is good).

Winn-Dixie was in chapter 11 bankruptcy a few years ago, and closed a bunch of stores. I wouldn't be surprised if they go away entirely in a few years. Albertson's has pulled out of South Florida, which should help them, but I think they are getting owned by Wal-Mart and Target superstores, which have large grocery departments. I won't miss them if they do go, their customer service isn't good at all. Only thing about them I like is the self checkout registers.
