I am a PADI Scuba Instructor and will be in Ft. Lauderdale in early January with a student. I'm looking for two things:

1. An inexpensive hotel that has a dive shop either associated with it or very nearby where we can rent tanks and weights.

2. A good dive site for a student to do their Open Water dives at.

Any help would be much appreciated.

If i were you, i'd go to DEMA in Las Vegas in a couple of weeks and see if you can score a good deal.

If you have any flexibility in your destination I would stay in Key Largo or rent a car and drive down to dive at Pennekamp State Park. Far and away better for a check out dive, especially in January when it can be rough with stronger currents.
