I have spent a LOT of time in the summer here and I enjoy it as much as any other month. Homesick yes I do get it I have family still in NJ I'm not an orphan. I'm not a snowbird I will be here 12 months a year. They are a short plane ride home or better yet a short plane ride to here. I love C/C we have bonded and she will be my BFF. I will still love it in 1 year or 5 years.

What a great story. I know there are others with the same type of experiences......even with the local problems that are so highlighted on this forum, there are those who ARE happy here and have positive experiences.

We need to hear more of those experiences, if only to bring some BALANCE to this forum.

I think if people just tell their stories, and stick to what they believe the forum will balance it self.

Yes, you would think so, but we have had a history of some folks having unethical agendas, etc. Some folks perhaps trying to sell a house, or promoting a personal business, etc.

We had a person not too long ago who aggressively compulsively posted nothing but half truths and 100% negative posts about the area multiple times a day. The person was clearly unbalanced.
I will not post the real reason she was doing all of that posting, but let's just say it would fall into the "truth is stranger then fiction" category.

In a perfect world, this forum would be true to it's goal, which is just helping people interested in an area or subject. Sadly, the ambiguity of the internet lends itself to not knowing the credibility of some posters. One wonders if it would be better if we could communicate face to face....then we would have a better "read" on what info we could trust. Being able to hide behind a monitor is not always a good thing.....

Anyway, back to topic.

Frank

True but you could make that same argument for people that insist that posting only positive things makes everything alright. It doesn't there is the real world that happens every day.

I think most people like it here... but I know a lot get homesick (including myself) I guess this is no differnt than moving anywhere else. There is always that excitement at first, but once the first year passes, you'll have a pretty good idea about how much you truly like it here.

I am sure that I am not the norm on this but besides October and April my next favorite months to be there are June and July. I find the water way too cold for my liking in the winter months, the fish don't bite as well, and too cold and windy to be out on the boat. The only reason I'm not crazy about august and september is the unpredictability of the rain/thunderstorms.

My father doesn't mind the heat either, he says since he spent time in Saudi arabia during the gulf wars heat doesn't effect him anymore.

Ain't no different here than any where else in the country. The whole country has the same issues just wrapped up in smaller or bigger boxes with prettier bows. Trust me I'm from NJ the capital corrupt state and this is small freaking potatoes baby. No I don't want your landscape trailer parked in your driveway, I have a bike and a boat trailer I have in storage its fine right there. I don't want your trash, crap junk cars and anything you find at yard sale crapping up my views.
I agree!

Of course. And I have never insisted on an only positive forum. That would be wrong, unbalanced and untruthful. However, one would have to admit that this forum as a whole is very negative and unbalanced. There IS a happy medium of truth, but it is rarely found here.
BOTH extremes are just that, and are disingenuous. Both hurt folks foolish enough to be influenced by them.

No place is all bad or all good, and folks who post only one or the other are not being totally truthful.

As to the original post here, it was refreshing to read someone happy with their experience. I am happy for them, and would be whatever my current situation is. What I find pitiful is the crab-bucket mentality that we find here at times by those who want to quickly rain on anyone's parade. The fact is that even with unemployment, foreclosures, etc, there ARE some folks who love living there, and it is nice to every so often hear their story.

I have a home in both NY and Florida. In the near future I plan on leaving my hometown of 40 years and moving to my Florida home. I like and dislike things about BOTH places. At this time in my life, I am choosing Florida soon.
BUT.........do I frequent the NY forum and constantly complain about the high taxes, potholes and rust, bitter cold,etc,etc,etc...........No, I don't.

On the same subject, although I currently prefer Florida, I know there are both good and bad things about it. Furthermore, I do not spend time trying to convince others on how wonderful or terrible any one place is.

Anyway, congrats to the original poster.

Frank
