Hi everyone,
My husband and I are basically new home owners in Cape Coral. We are located on the Mead Canal. We rented a place last March and April right next door and had great success in catching crabs. This year however we arent having much luck.We even bought a commercial trap.We are using everything from chicken thighs to catfish and even hotdogs. We are getting desperate since we have our grandkids here this week.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Is it correct to assume that there is nothing more I can do to catch crabs?

Short of actually setting traps like the commercial guys do, there really is nothing else you can do. Just like every other kind of fishing, you either catch em or ya don't!

try buying a few cans of cheap dog food and punch holes in both ends and put them in the trap with the chicken- not too fresh. The dog food will slowly melt and the crabs will find it. Is it possible you have the trap upside down?

We have great luck using Bonito from the local bait shop. Also as Alsidw said, is the trap upside down? The entrance for the crabbys is at the bottom. If it is upside down, they get out. I know this as I was using ours upside down. The crabs climb to the top of the cage. If the entrance is at the top, they find their way out.
Don't know about the SE Cape though.
Never tried dog food.......
Good luck!
