Ive been looking at houses in the Cape Coral area on the internet and see that alot have wrought iron gates at the front doors.... having travelled alot in Latin America, this is fairly common for security...even in Miami you see it alot... Does this indicate a security issue in the Cape Coral area? Is there an issue with break-ins or home invasions that would necessitate this type of extra security?

If done nicely, they can be very decorative. If you're screening in your front porch anyway, why not add security as well? Cape Coral has one of the lowest crime rates in the state, so if it's due to fear of people breaking in, they're just being paranoid.

Wrought iron has become fashionable again as a design element for homes, ... whether it's for front gates or as stair railings, etc. So, it's most likely for design purposes rather than safety purposes, especially in a low crime are such as Cape Coral.

Yes, it's done for added security and not the owners are not paranoid...just cautious. Cape Coral isn't as crime free as many people want to believe.

Cape Coral is not crime free, but is does have one of the lowest crime rates in FL compared to other FL cities in its size range. But, you can never be too careful, so added security is not a bad idea.

Ive lived in Miami Shores, where decorative wrought iron screen doors were made famous.

Many years ago having purchased a house that was formerly owned by a fellow in the "IMPORT" business....He had them installed on all his doors for security reasons....it seemed that he was very afraid that his customers may want to visit in the middle of the night..

I was kind of wondering if that problem existed in the CC area as well.

Is it in a certain area, because I moved here at the beginning of January and haven't seen any in Cape Coral. It's very safe where I am, in fact my roommate keeps the door unlocked most of the day, which I hate.

We just put in a (wrought iron) aluminum door and railing to enclose our porch and screen it in. It has nothing to do with security. Our house is a hacienda style so the look adds to the curb appeal.
