We always knew that it was always ranked as one of the safest cities in Florida but being named 10th safest in the country has to be the first time I have seen it ranked so high. Congrats to the citizens of the Cape!

I might as well nip the naysayers in the bud right now. Skeptics will claim, "OOOh, oooh, ... but crime is up. I see it on the news all the time!"

Well, yes. The total crime could be up because the population is WAY up. When you have a city with over 170,000 people, there will be some crime, and it will be seen on the news. However, as I've asserted several times before, the crime RATE (crimes per 100K) is among the lowest.

Unfortunately, we live in a time where the negative news is given the most attention. The result is that people begin to see things as if the negative news is describing the whole.
There is a reason that Cape Coral is ranked as one of the top 10 safest cities_Because it is!

There are so many good things happening in Cape Coral and that is why it is also one of the fastest growing cities in the country.

Business is growing with many companies opening stores and providing services.
Great parks for family fun.
Great canals that provide boating and fishing enjoyment to many.

Don't know if I missed it, but I didn't see any mention of this ranking anywhere in the local papers. you would think it would be praised everywhere.

I am in the NE section and a little north of Kismet.. Very quiet.. Everyone who moves here feels very safe. Off the beaten path and all the neighbors are good people. No crime to speak of at all.

I still lock my doors and close my garage door.

Cape Coral has been ranked among the safest for a very long time. Different publications publish it every year. We're also voted every year as one of the top places in the whole Country to Retire, safety being among one of the factors. It's a shame the Bad News is always what commands the attention.
