Do you have savings? And I don't mean a few hundred.

Fort Worth does have a bus system, and there are apartments that are within walking distance of the bus system. But DFW is huge. Figure 80 + miles across in any direction. If you do not have a car, you are very limited as to job opportunities as most jobs, if not downtown, are not going to be close to a bus drop. Just the facts of life. And to get that job, you have to be able to get to interviews, be able to work the hrs needed, etc.

Example, there are a lot of jobs at Alliance Corridor, but you can't count on riding a bus there.

Yes, there are jobs. Get on the job boards and start looking. But if you come down without bucks to survive 6 months at least, including apartment deposit, etc, you can get into trouble real quick.

Second this. Don't move here with a family without a car or a job!

Sounds like you shouldn't have difficulty finding a job with your extensive skill set. With that said, get the job and a car first before moving anywhere in Texas. It's very car centric. You don't want to rely on a bus schedule.

There's an office building for an oil company in downtown Fort Worth.

Living close to downtown can be pricey though.

The only way you can show up for job interviews looking fresh, clean and groomed is by being driven or driving directly to a company. It is hot here and not pedestrian friendly. Transit and/or bus stops are not well located for many businesses. Even if you used the TRE rail to get to Bell Helicopter in Hurst (station near the facility), you would be a sweaty mess walking to your destination for an interview.

Fort Worth is very car centic city it is not like LA or Miami. And thee are areas in Dallas and Fort Worth I would not wallk down the street because of little foot traffic.

There are buses and vanpools, but you need money to ride them. And you can't possibly rely on public transportation to go to a job interview.

It's texas. You cannot live without a car. You might want to but it's not possible.
