Seems that some (many?) local merchants still expect you to print a coupon from their website in order to get the discount. It's not okay simply to show them your online coupon.

Is this really the case?

My local Honda dealer said I needed the printed coupon for the $18 savings on the oil change. So I went to the library and printed one, but it's not really worth it just to save $5 or less.

Yes...they are manufacturers coupons which generate a unique code every time one is printed. The store needs to send them to the manufacturer to get credit for the coupon, so without the physical piece of paper, more often than not they have no way of recouping the money.

It depends on the business..

With Groupon, I think you can present them on a Tablet or phone (or just give them the code.)

I had received a coupon from Staples in the mail and then lost it.. then I logged into my account with them online and got the code.. they accepted the code in store fine and I still got the discount.
