How do you save money on back to school supplies? My wife loves to go to the store and just buy what the school tells her to buy. We are trying to dig out from a $4500 hospital bill.

I got my daughter's high school list and found 80% of it in our storage cabinets. We already had most of it. Just a matter of finding it and giving it to her.

How do you save on school supplies?

Have you negotiated with the hospital on that bill? That is where your greatest potential savings might lie. You did good on scrounging for what you already have for school supplies.

My kids go to online school. I bought the computers when they started, and there's been nothing to buy since.

I like to stock up on supplies when they go on clearance after the big rush. They had copy paper for $.50 a ream in September. Pens and pencils and glue and folders were on sale.

Back to school time is a good time for household staples too. Kleenex, feminine hygiene, baggies, soap and shampoo are often on sale too.
