Just got back from Costco with my son. We sometimes splurge and buy a package of four NY strip steaks which up until today, usually run about $30. We looked in the freezer section today, and the cheapest 4 smaller steaks was $54.60. We looked at another one that had larger pieces, and it was $62.00 +.

We thought they were mis-marked so we asked the butcher, and he said no, that was the price. Now I know they are Prime grade, but still that is quite a hike over the last month. They were $16.95 per pound.
Guess we won't be having Costco steaks any longer.

I noticed the beef prices have jumped up. Apparently beef, poultry and fish are up nearly 8 percent, an unprecedented increase. The meat department at my local grocery had no one buying when I was there the other day. Shocking increase in prices.

News out yesterday the government has FINALLY admitted that we're experiencing a massive surge in food prices.

Well, DUH! Why did it take them this long to walk into a supermarket and check out the meat case?

I guess it's a good thing I don't eat much beef! I do take advantage of Safeway's 'bargain meat bin' now and then though and manage to find some nice small steaks just for me. Also will buy a small roast now and then. Mostly it's chicken, pork and fish. Don't know why but it seems like most of the beef I've bought the past year has been just tough and hard to eat. Maybe it's the cuts I've bought. My slow cooker is good for those though.

I can't see me EVER paying $16.95 per pound for anything.

Lowest amount of cattle since 1954, and population has doubled since then.

Prices are soaring and not expected to go down.

Anyone who keeps up with national news and weather reports would know that the surging price of feed (grain and hay) and the droughts are causing ranchers to sell not only feeder cattle but whole breeding herds. When their foundation stock is sold, they either permanently get out of business or wait out the problems to rebuild a herd. This has been redicted for the last 3 years at least and will not be short term..

Good thing I have been cutting back on meats in general.

Aldi doesn't seem to have been hit as bad. But I have been stocking up on the frozen turkey meat like it's going out of style!

Yes, I noticed that ground beef has gone up $1 a lb recently. I had heard that it would and it did indeed!

I think a LOT of the very overpriced beef is hitting the bargain-bin......and still not being bought, so it goes into the garbage.

NOPE, not me, I am not paying insane prices for beef, forget it.

I was in Safeway the other day.....the bargain-bin was packed, mostly with cuts of very overpriced beef. Then again, Safeway has gone from a very good store price and quality wise to pathetic. I cannot tell you how many times I have walked out of Safeway...just SMFH, $1.79 a pound for fracking yellow onions, DONK!
