I do NOT shop black friday ever. I did some research a few years ago to see just how much savings was actually giving on products I shop for during these times of years and it wasn't worth it.
For instance, a craft store I shop at regularly, sends me black friday circulars every year and they always have the same brand of yarn on "sale". The add would read Lionsbrand Yarn regularly $7.49 now $4.99. This same yarn is $4.99 year round. So they up the price on BF to make it seem better for people who probably do not know better or check.
The only time there are actual savings (at this craft store any way) is when they send out 30% off entire yarn purchase including sale items coupon.
I did it once a looong time ago, and got a 6' pre-lit Christmas Tree at Walmart for $20 - mind you, this was definitely over a decade ago. It was fun then until it wasn't anymore due to insane crowd and crappy 'deals'.
Ironically, other countries like UK, Canada, Spain, etc, have picked up on Black Friday sales so these countries have them the same day as US, but the deals were meh from what I've seen - usually for old items they wanted to get rid off.
On similar note, Canadians seem to flock to US en masse on Black Friday and I'm sure those who live in border towns can tell you more about this weird phenomenon. I remember driving back from Vancouver to Seattle on a Black Friday morning, little did I know I would find massive crowds at the border crossing - all Canadians trying to get to an outlet mall on the US side hunting for bargains. It took me 2 hours of waiting in line just to cross over to the US - something that took me less than 10 minutes under normal circumstances.
They don't seem to offer anything I need. If they did have something I needed it would have to be a heck of a good price to make it worth fighting the crowds and it doesn't seem to me that prices are any lower than they are at other December sales.
I have to confess, though, that I always go to Walmart the day after Christmas when all Christmas stuff is half off. I go to buy the big Christmas candles because I need the wax and half off makes them a very good price. It's crowded in the Christmas aisle, but not like Black Friday.
The sales aren't worth it. A few killer deals on a limited supply of items. It's like winning the lotto to grab one of those.
Personally, we don't make a big deal of the holidays. The kids are easy to shop for and the adults just do a $50 secret santa grab and that's it. Xmas shopping can be wrapped up in 2 hours on Amazon
I live less than a mile from the only mall in town, so I don't even leave my HOUSE on Black Friday. I'm not suicidal, and people who shop on Black Friday are CRAZY.
