We went to some local thrift stores yesterday and came out pretty good. My wife likes buying clothes for our 8 (and another on the way) great grandkids. One store has the cloth bags some people carry their groceries home in and you can get all the clothes you can pack in it for 25 cents. Between the three stores we bought three of those bags, a few other clothes, and a table lamp and shade and only paid $4.50.
I got some good deals not at a thrift store but an antique mall recently.
The mall has a section for grocery store items that I sometimes check for bargains. I bought an unopened box of Met/RX protein bars that had 10 bars. The typical price you would pay for these bars at stores would be about a 1.50 a bar but I got the whole box for 1.29. They weren't even outdated and they taste great.
At this same mall, a booth had hundreds of VHS movie tapes for free. Yep, that's right, free. I guess you could have loaded up the whole kit and kaboodle if you wanted. Lot's of movies of all types but I only picked out 5. I already have hundreds of video tapes at home and didn't need too many more.
$300 Excalaber dehydrator for $19.95
$1,200 massage chair I was considering buying new for $40
$5,000 boat and motor (guy who donated it said his dad used it 3x) for $1k (for that deal because I bought it right off the loading dock.
$300 cashmere sweater for $6 (lots similar)
$100+ steam jucer $10.11
And more than I can think of!
Vinyl is worth good money these days if you can find a venue to sell it. Vinyl/CD music stores sell used both, vinyl in good condition going for a premium. Take your collection over to such a store and ask the owner or manager to select any of interest and name a price.
I'll say off-hand both are worth about a dollar at garage sales unless they are famous artists or famous albums. However I am no authority. And also, my yard sale prices drop throughout the day. If somebody balks I tell them that. "Come back later and if it's unsold I'll give you a better deal."
It's amazing, the vinyl enthusiasts and vacuum tube enthusiasts. As a seasoned electronic engineer and BSEE, I laugh that people think somehow vinyl or vacuum tubes are superior. IMO they are delusional.
These days all my music is on my local server or is up in the e-cloud. (Or is the i-cloud?) My CDs are safely stored in keep boxes. I sold my last vinyl years ago, to a record store.
A friend of mine was selling them at a garage sale and a customer was trying to convince her that he usually paid only twenty-five cents for each CD.
About $4 on eBay with free shipping. Double that for brand new CDs.
