Good advice from others. BTW, this is why I got an electric mower.

if there is no sticker on the pump stating the gas contains ethanol, is that proof the gas doesn't contain any?
i've often wondered about that..

Thanks guys. Yes I store both my mower and gas can in the garage -- no where else to store -- gets warm in the summer out here in California.

I did buy the basic unleaded gas -- I guess I could try the higher octane stuff + stabilizer. Obviously, the stabilizer has to be added to fresh, new gas -- there's no gain to adding it to already exhausted gas.

Air filter is clean. I mow very little about 5 - 10 minutes tops every week or so.

I had a Fiskar's reel mower prior to this. Liked it, but the excess clippings created all sorts of health problems in my sod. Fiskar's has since released a catch for their reel mower, but it connects to the front of the mower and juts out considerably -- which really puts a dent mowing in small areas

P.S. Does Home Dept/Lowes generally carry fuel stabilizers?

Great posts everyone.

With the high temps this summer does that tend to make gas go bad faster? What about the cold?
Just curious.

Yes, they have the stabilizer as well as the "kill the ethanol" additive.

id love to have an electric mower but they dont work too well with 2 acre yards. Anywho, i bought a troy-bilt mower from lowes as well and after 1 season it refused to start. of course i had no clue that i was suppose to drain the fuel and whatnot in the winter (never had to do that to the mower when i was a kid) but if your mower has a b&s engine heres this Troubleshooting a Briggs & Stratton Engine - Associated Content from Yahoo! - associatedcontent.com

I have the fiskars reel mower and a much larger lawn it sounds like ........ I just cut twice a week.......viola problem fixed. Sounds like electric would have been a great choice for your lawn size though.

MY SIL gummed up a gas weed trimmer with the ethanol gas. On our older vehicles we know where every ethanol-free gas stations is in our area! Makes a big difference.

By Law, there is supposed to be a sticker on the pump if it contains ethanol.
