Does your garden actually help your food budget?

No, not in the least. I garden because I enjoy it, but never get what I need when I need it through gardening (I do not can or preserve - no space to store preserved food).

In our backyard we planted herbal, vegetables and fruit trees. Our garden helps lot of stuff. If one of the members of family are sick, we just go to our garden and seek for some herbal plants that can cure illnesses. But does not the only thing that our garden helps us. It also help our food budget, if we need some fruits trees, we are free to pick some. If we need ingredients we also have it in our garden. And that's how helpful our garden was. Definitely not. A lot of the stuff I grow I wouldn't even buy otherwise. I only eat basil and green onions because they are in my backyard. And I eat far more tomatoes, green beans, and zucchini that I would if I were buying them at the grocery store.

Now you definitely can save money on groceries by gardening, but most gardeners aren't gardening for that purpose.

My backyard garden is an expensive grocery store, but a cheap hobby. I'd argue that it definitely saves money over many alternative ways of spending my time.

No, we grow tons of food that we never eat. The deer had some good salads, though. I'm planning to add free venison to our menu.

So far I am aware that two of the long legged rats have been "harvested" with a bow. If they take a dozen more I wouldn't even think about shedding a tear!
