Ugh, this time of the year, I can't even spend any time in my backyard without getting stung like crazy by these evil blood suckers. They act like they own the place and I'm the intruder, in my own yard!

I have a heavily vegetation yard and had the same problem when we moved in. I am now able to spend more time out there and not get bitten. DH can tell you I am considered a smorgasbord for the 'skeeter population. First we opened up the trees and thinned them our to get more air in and around them. We eliminated 16 trees on the property and discovered pools of standing water in buried bird baths etc. We also resloped and graded the yard. The more you look the more you can find that will help eliminate the problems. For us it was a yard in overgrowth.

I wish I had mosquitos. The alternative, no rain, is much worse.

They might not even be coming from your property.

Mosquitoes fly further for a bite to eat - especially females | Daily Mail Online

"Verdonschot expected most mosquitoes to be caught in the closest traps. Instead, about 80 percent were found in the farthest, meaning most flew at least 150 meters from the tent where they were hatched."

Wear insect repellent. If you want to sit on the porch or deck, use a fan. It wont stop them, but it's a deterrent.

these actually do work, I live in Mosquitoville City in East Central Minnesota and ours has been keeping control over our property next to a swamp for more than 15 years.

Humidity+wet shaded areas+heat=mosquito land. On my 6 acres, you can go from no mosquitoes in wide open dry sunny area to a ton of them in blackberry shrubs next to where wetland is.

something I use to keep mosquitoes from sucking my blood-Crush 2 large cloves of garlic, place in 12 oz cup and microwave for 2 min., remove and cover, let steep for 10 or more minutes, rub the garlic tea on exposed skin and even on your clothes. The garlic is good for you and works better than the commercial mosquito repellents. I would rather smell like garlic. Afterall, mosquitoes are vampires . I keep a spray bottle handy when these little parasites are around.

Happy gardening from an old-timer.

By the way-this garlic spray also repels chiggers which like to hide in the grass and can leave one with lots of itchy-scratchy's especially when picking blackberries.

Mosquitoes love me, too. Here is my miracle remedy for those dang bites:

Caladium Seguinum Pills - Homeopathy Works

(It says motion sickness, but those of you familiar with homeopathy know that remedies often have many indications.)

I pop a couple of them under my tongue and the itchiness stops pretty quickly. Even better, the welts usually disappear overnight.

Your mileage may vary, but worth a try. My husband swears by this remedy, too.

I haven't found a homeopathic remedy that repels the mosquitoes yet, though. LOL
