We just moved to NW Indiana from Chicago and now have nearly 5 acres of trees/plants. I am looking for a book to identify them. Anyone have a suggestion of a great photo book of the trees and plants to help me identify them? Thank you.

cd -- I would have to say the best source would be the internet.

for tree and plants, with all the varieties out there, you may have to buy several books, and still not ID everything.

I'd get onto some PLant ID forums. I know davesgarden.com had a great one, and i hear GardenWeb does too, though I have yet to find it.

all you have to do is post a photo and give a description, and it will usually get ID'd

Good luck and have fun with your new/big yard.

Name That Plant! - GardenWeb

Garden Web's Name that Plant forum.

I've posted a few things there myself. Be sure to put in an email address when you register. The folks there are really quick and someone knows what you have.

I have a good friend in Illinois who wrote a book titled "Native Trees for North American Landsapes", his name is Guy Sternburg. I highly recommend getting his book, I know I have learned a lot from him.

Edit to last post, I misspelled Guy's last name, it's Sternberg.

Here's one site you can use that covers some of the more commonly found trees.
