Is there any way to find out if a person that came to the US went back to the country they came from?

Ancestry.com have passenger lists for various countries. Passenger Lists - Ancestry.com - On the right hand side, where it says "Filter by Location".

If the time-frame is recent you may find it through the SSDI. Members of my extended family often "went back" after living/working here for years, and the last benefits paid are recorded as being paid in the county they went back to, through the American Embassy.
