If you're on familysearch.org or want to be, there is a link to standardize place names. It's easy and maybe even a little bit fun if you have a few minutes and find it interesting. familysearch.org is free, just sign up with an email.

They always seem to auto-suggest standardized place names for me, albeit I don't wander outside the USA much as my family on both sides has been here a long time. Maybe it's not as straightforward for other particularly non-English-speaking countries, I dunno.

This is where people didn't take the suggestion, put in there own thing. You can choose the country, plenty of USA places need standardizing.

So what you're saying is it's a volunteer project to enter the standardized place names where the last person to enter/edit the place name failed to do so?
