Hello All, I'm new here ....

I would like to find out which is the best method to use when choosing a moving co. I'm relocating from southern PA to northern VA.

I'll be moving items from a 10' x 20' storage unit.

Is it best to choose a moving Co. from the PA area or the N. VA area for the relocation.

Thanks.

Would renting one of those big U-Haul trucks and doing it yourself be an option? 10 X 20 doesn't seem like that much. Or, hire a couple day laborers for $10/hour to load it at your origin, you drive it, and hire more to unload at your destination.

you can check out the Uhaul website for all of that! We went on there to check prices and found a section to hire people to load your truck. We saved money by using a trailer, but when we moved from MD to NC I hired people from the Uhaul website to load us in MD, then another crew to unload us in NC.

The site has reviews from customers about the loaders they used, it also gave us many options as to how many men and how many hours etc.

I thought this way was safer than finding random strangers on craigslist.

Thanks for all the replies ... much appreciated!

I checked the most recommended site for loaders\unloaders {https://www.movinghelp.com/} and will come out a lot cheaper than hiring movers to do the complete job.

Now all I have to do is navigate the truck around treacherous DC traffic

Maybe you can avoid DC. What's your starting point and destination?

No doubt that renting a truck is cheaper than hiring a moving company, but there are risks if someone gets hurt and sues you, or you get help that is out to rip you off. If you can handle those risks, you will save a lot of money. Another thought, the insurance provided when you hire a moving company is usually inadequate if you have expensive furniture, antiques or heirlooms. For example, $ 40,000 worth of supplemental coverage when moving will cost an additional approx $ 444 according to Moving Insurance: Local Valuation Insurance Coverage | Jordan
