I could have sworn that I've heard of shared moving where people heading to same location share a large moving truck or am I crazy? I have a 1 bedroom apt in a 10x10 storage that I will need moved to Denver from Miami. I've looked into Penske etc but for the truck and car tow it will be almost $1900 plus gas. I don't want to sell everything and buy everything new as I've already gotten a 1/1 over there and I like my stuff, lol.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Who did you move and how is the price calculated?? TIA

BTW-U pack wanted $2800!!

Wow, we moved a 3BR 2Ba house with finished basement from NY to NC for $3000.

I think people in your position overlook the major carriers, and it's a mistake. The carriers do exactly what you are asking - they wait till the truck is loaded before they move your stuff. Even with our house, we didn't fill the truck. They loaded our stuff, weighed the truck, and then continued to load it up with other peoples' stuff.

Call in a United, an Allied and a Mayflower rep for a free estimate. What've you got to lose?

Yea that's what I can't figure out. How can a 6x7x9 Pod cost $2800??? I mean I can certainly get a full moving service to do that for the same price but obviously I don't want to spedn that kind of money. All of my stuff together doesn't even value much more than that..

So any other suggestions???

People will share a truck. Just look on Craigslist or post your own ad there. You may find somebody who already has a truck and wants to share gas, tolls, etc. Try to get rid of as much stuff as you can. (sell it on CL) You can always replace it on Craigslist when you get there.

I know. I think at this point I might just sell it. I've got a friend who needs to furnish his place so he'll take most of it. The rest I will CL it. I wish the UPack wasn't so expensive so I could keep my stuff but I'd rather have the money for bills. Oh well, a totally fresh start is in order

Agree with OP, give one of the big well-known movers a call and get the estimate. It's free and they are trustworthy. Have heard numerous stories about moving companies that give a price and then when you get to your destination double it. They won't give you your belongings unless you pay up.

The kind of option you're looking for, Himain, where people heading to same location share a large moving truck is illegal - unless the person with the truck is operating some type of household goods motor carrier or brokerage operating authority approved by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Moving is expensive. And it's going to become even more so in the next few weeks.

May is National Moving Month. Most properly licensed interstate household goods carriers, truck rental companies, and nationwide mobile/portable container transportation providers increase their prices during the peak moving season between May and August.

Do you mean that YOU packed everything and drove the moving truck yourself, or did a moving company do this for $3000? Whenever we've used moving companies it's been around $12,000.

Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't aware of that fact. I'm thinking that has a lot to do with my quotes.
