I am a widow who finds herself seeking a new location for myself and my dog and cat. The ideal place for me is very affordable, safe, has decent medical services, is beautiful and near a body of water (I've lived in Alaska and on the California coast where the beauty is stupendous), loves dogs and cats, and is an inclusionary and active community (western WA, in my experience, has that Washington freeze thing going on). Cold and snowy winters are fine by me but humid summers are a nightmare. I don't want to be stuck in the equivalent of an old age community yet. My family is back east but we are all able to travel. I grew up mostly around Pennsylvania. A few of the places I've been considering include a variety of areas in Pennsylvania and Alaska, the far northern California coast, Oregon, and, yes, western Washington. Your input is needed and appreciated. Please feel free to ask for more details!

Perhaps try Burlington, VT. A lot of activities, the weathers good, and its quite safe. Lots of more country-esque towns around too.

Well, it's 100 miles to a body of water (the Pacific), unless you count swimming pools, but the desert areas of Palm Springs, CA and the lower Coachella Valley are an interesting mix of retirees and lively younger people. Very diverse, gays, celebrities, sun-worshippers, lots of culture, art festivals, film festivals, museums. Three hospitals, LA in range if you need it, a wide range of real estate prices, and family will want to actually visit you there, especially in winter.

No water, but St. George, UT might interest you.

I know two seniors who were headed for LV and ended up in St. George. It's working out well for them. It's in the southern end of UT and warmer than SLC.

Ithaca NY would be a good fit. Perhaps some of the other Upstate NY cities/towns too. I'd say look into places with a college/university.

Morgantown WV may work too.

Well, you don't want humidity, which rules out the eastern coast, very humid
so, I have heard that the West coast isn't as humid.
Affordabillity is relative. What is expensive to one person, may not be to you.
Is Oregon cheaper to live in? IDK.
Mabey if you could stand the humidity in the summer, New England states may suit you.
I don't think they are affordable though.
You have lived different places, you know where you liked to live.
If you don't think the affordability issue is a problem there, move. Just rent.
You can always change your mind.
Or always stay where you are, and join some local groups and make new friends.
