I could sure use some help on this please:

I have a great 99 Saab Convertible, and am moving east from SF.

I fly out mid-Jan.

I want to be sure that I've sold my car, because I need to buy a car when I get there.

KBB lists the car at $2030.

How do I sell the car, when I need it, or a rental until I leave?

Do I inflate the price to cover for a rental? (approx cost:$500)

I put it on CL for $1750 to get it to move fast, without realizing people will want it immediately.

Obviously I've never done this before.

Thanks very much.

Your best bet, is to keep the car till a few day before you depart, sell it to a Dealer, like CarMax or something like that, you have use of your car till the very end, then get "cash", and walk away.

You can not Inflate the price to cover a rental, no one will buy your car $500+ over it blue book value,

CL, you need to deal with dozens of phone call, no show, and the whole selling process, and while you are packing to move, and hope that it sell, in that time frame, and the deal(s) don't fall thru.

It looks like the amount Car Max will pay would be reduced for their turnaround sale.

I guess then it also makes sense to list it at KBB list price, and then use that cash for a rental until I leave?

Other than the hassle of CL, it would have it done. And I would like to know that it's done.

Thank you

I had a friend who moved back east from TX, she took her car to CarMax, sold it and then flew out. Like you said, it was the easiest way for the sale to take place. There are a lot of tire kickers on CL.

+1 on the fact that no one is going to pay for over to cover a cost of your rental. That's your problem, not theirs.

Yeah, I get it... so maybe I just wait or sell it a kbb price.

I just want to get to over with sooner rather than later.

And I know dealers are out to make money themselves, so that lowers the amount they pay out.

I'm looking to receive the most money I can so I can buy on the other side.

Thanks

Hi MrR,

That's great! Thank you :-)

I pulled the ad tonight.

And appreciate all your comments.

Thank you.

Learned that my car was valued at more than I thought, so I reposted it for a higher price a week after I pulled the ad.

The buyer was able to pick the car the weekend before I left, and I got a great deal on a rental car through hotwire.

Thanks for your help!
