I'm trying to figure out the best way to move that won't cost me an arm and a leg.

Not taking a lot but don't think there will be enough room in car (tho maybe I should just do it that way).

If I decided to rent a van for the move, how would I find helpers to load the van? And find helpers to unload the van? Or do I just need a dose of reality?

Yes. I have hired crews to do this a few times. I rented a Penske truck, and they provided the link to a company that provides the labor.

I have always been happy with the results.

Look for a Two Guys and a Truck company locally. My daughter used one of the franchises, and they were very good.
and years ago, I called the local job service where I was going to be loading to move away, and got a good guy.

U haul helpers. I have used them two times and was very happy with them.

Two guys and a truck suck. Do not use them!

Thank you!

I love the idea that when something comes along that we don't know, we can post it here and some people know about it and can give great information.

Same here. Pretty easy to cross reference reviews on Yelp.

I hired un loaders from my old state to the date/time I wanted in the new state. They were a non profit place so I just filled out the intake form and called to make sure they'd be there. It went well.
