100% Dixie. Is General Lee your Grandfather?

Actually, I am related to him. And I live in the former Capital of the Confederacy after all.

Any attempt to ascertain one's dialect via an internet quiz is going to be fraught with error just given its nature, but they are still fun little quizzes that show that regional diversity in speech is not quite dead yet.

Not meaning to change the direction of this board, but everyone should know that General Lee was one of the greatest of all time. He was Lincoln's first choice to lead the Union army but Lee refused to raise a hand against his native south. He graduated West Point with no demerits which is unheard of. I challenge everyone to put away their preconceived ideas about the south and General Lee, and read history, you will see that the Civil War was not fought over slavery and that General Lee was a highly respected hero.

Could you please explain to me what the Civil War was fought over then? Since moving to Texas I have heard this explanation several times, but I still don't understand. The most coherent explanation I've heard was that it wasn't fought over slavery, but the right to keep slavery legal-- which is just a convoluted way of saying that it was fought over slavery.

Hmmm..well, this time I scored only 11% Dixie, and am a Duke of Yankeedom Again, since I've lived in the same location in the Midwest all my life, not too shocking for me. I don't have anything even close to a Southern accent hehehe.
