Minneapolis, Austin and Salt Lake City are tops because of large sense of community, home ownership and shorter commutes. New York, Miami and Las Vegas are the bottom because most live in apartments and have longer commutes. Uhhh..what say you?
I say "No". What does living in apartments have to do with anything? I have no figures but I'll bet Austin has tons of apartment dwellers, and so does Mpls. Long commutes? Sounds like a good excuse!
My thoughts: SLC has a large Mormon population and volunteering for church activities I believe is de rigeur. Minneapolis has a uniques Scandinavian heritage. Cooperation, community and mutual assistance are long hel values in the community. Austin? A politically active, liberla leaning college town with lots of opportunities to volunteer.

I've been in SLC and there are LOTS of apts. I think having to give 10% of one's income to the church (if one is a good, practicing Mormon), makes home ownership take a little longer. Mpls: lots of practicing Lutherans which stresses helping one's neighbor. The Lutheran Church is a big player in Habitat for Humanity. Austin, IKD. Have never been there. As a college town, I would assume (dangerous, I know) lots of apt dwellers. Have never been to Vegas, only to the Miami airport and to visit NYC. Vegas, one could assume the partying ethic, but I don't know at all about the other two.
