When will the Census Bureau release the population data for MSAs? I know that I can figure it out by adding up the counties in each MSA, but there are 366 of them, and that is a lot of work.
Does anyone know when the Census Bureau will release the data?
The 2010 census has been released by the bureau to the public and they have released MSA details to private publishing companies like Newgeography, etc. If you wish to view the metro populations of 2010, 2000, and % growth rate of last decade look towards the bottom of the page at the long list... hope this helps
The final MSAs, CSAs, and UAs do not come out until 2012 after the determination of any additions/subtractions at the county/tract are determined - there are quite a few that could have counties added etc.

2012!?!? It can't take that long to work out commuter percentages, can it? Good god.

I think it is a combination of two things; first the establish populations and demographics and second they review the rates and see if there is a need to modify criteria

Ah, I get it. I can see that working out whether they'd have to modify criteria would take some time. Good info.

That is the real kicker about all this. They change all the time.
I personally think they had it right in 1990 and 2000. When they took the letter M out of CMSA, it really threw a lot of people into confusion.
M was removed because some Combined Statistical Areas have Micropolitan Areas too-not just Metropolitan Areas.
I hope they remedy when new guidelines are released.
Also, I miss PMSAs because the East Bay actually had an identity. LOL.

True, but as of now, the 2003 definitions apply.
