Yep, what those who live here already know. Based on GDP per capita, Hartford is a corporate powerhouse that puts even cities like Boston to shame. We have the GDP output of 16 states combined.
San Jose is number 3 which seems obvious. If your metro is wealthy because of one particular industry that boomed at one point, it wouldn't be hard for it to come on top. However, it's also far more vulnerable if that single industry were to leave the metro and cause a massive rise in poverty (see example: any rust belt city).
I'd rather live in a metro with a diverse economy that's somewhere in the middle rather than just a purely wealthy metro that's dependent on one source for that wealth. But that's just me.
Lol i knew it would be either somewhere in Connecticut. I bet Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun loves stealing those rich peoples money
LOL I'm sure they do! But the reality is most of their clientele are from Mass and NY. Thanks for visiting neighbors.

I don't disagree, and I'm not sure if you are referring to Hartford. It's not a one trick city, by any stretch. There is a looooong history of many industries here.
Outside of the insurance and financial giants there is Colt armament, Legrand Wiremold, Pratt and Whitney, Hamilton Sunstrand, Kaman, Carrier, Otis Elevator, Sikorsky, Loctite, Gerber Scientific, Stanley works/Black and Decker etc etc and United Technologies is pretty much the grand daddy of fuel cell development.
I have to be honest, I was surprised at San Jose...mostly because I don't know much about it. lol
Seeing San Fran, DC and Boston in the top 10 was not much of a surprise though.

Nice pic, but Hartford looks a lot seedier when you're driving through it.
Yeah Hartford has one of the highest rates of poverty for a city in the country. Thats why the suburbs are "wealthy" because all the poor people are in the inner city, lol.

I live in a metro that's economically distressed, but I'm doing reasonably well financially at the moment. I prefer this to the reverse.
