Mountains and ocean coastlines area beautiful. But what are some of the most scenic areas around the country that aren't mountains or ocean coastlines?

I'm thinking areas like the Driftless Area in the Midwest, the Finger Lakes in NY, the Hill Country in Texas.

To me, pretty much any notable variation from the predominant topography of an area can enhance its visual appeal. Thus, the mighty Mississippi River passing through mainly flat land creates a beautiful contrast. Rolling hills, such as can be found in the Nashville area for example, are also very scenic. And as nadnerb said, the Grand Canyon and other canyons are also quite striking. They're kind of like inverted mountain ranges in a way, and they're very scenic.

The Finger Lakes area already mentioned

Michigan's upper peninsula, and a lot of other areas along Lakes Superior and Michigan.

I also tend to like swamps and marshes as being rather mysterious and soothing, so FL, GA, and LA

I love the green, rolling hills landscape around Gettysburg, Carlisle, Cashtown, Chambersburg. The location of the battlefield is splendid, lovely. Hayfields and barns and meadows all that.
