If you live in a metropolitan area (MSA) post your main city population as well as the metro population and calculate the difference.

I'm asking because i want to find out which cities have the largest difference between city and metro population.

Minneapolis and St Paul combined city population is about 670 000

MSA is about 3.5 million.

difference about 2.8 million.

are you doing percentages or raw numbers cause obviously the bigger metros are gonna pump out bigger numbers

Population outside Central City
NY- 10M
LA- 8M
Chicago- 6.5M
Dallas- 5.5M
Miami 5M
ATL 5M
DC 5M
Philly- 4.5M
Houston- 4M

City of Austin 820,611 (2011)
Austin MSA 1,780,708 (2011)

For a different of 960,097 or 53.9% of the metro population living outside the central city.

The person is asking how many people are living in the actual city and how many are living in the suburbs around it and what's the difference. Seems to be asking if the city and suburb numbers of metro are close or not...

Percentage is a much better indicator. Otherwise, it's going to closely resemble the list of metros by population.

Yes percentage does seem like a better indicator.

I get that. A child could get that; and that is what I gave.

I just offered that percentage difference would be more meaningful because the bigger cities are obviously going to yield the biggest raw number outside the metro as I demonstrated.

So I'm just supposed to know what the population of the central city is of the cities you listed. And I don't feel like wasting time looking them all up.
The question was the difference between the city population and metro population, so by listing the difference, the city population is irrelevant.

I mistook what was written on top of all the cities numbers that were listed and only read the suburb population listed, sorry about that...
