I really appreciate some feedback!! I am able to move within the US and looking for a location with the following: a generally safe place to raise a family, warmer climate, within 1 hour distance to the beach, has a military presence/ military base as we prefer for benefits as vets. Thankful for any suggestions.

Check out St Mary's GA, just north of Jacksonville. It's a very nice family-friendly area with very good schools and plenty of nearby services/amenities in town or in neighboring Kingsland. There's also a commissary at the neighboring King's Bay Naval Submarine Base. The beaches are spectacular also!

Williamsburg and Yorktown/York County VA. Ft Eustis, Yorktown Naval Station, Langley AFB all on the peninsula. Across the river/bay is Norfolk, VA with all it's Navy and Marine facilities, so Virginia Beach would be a good choice on that side.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Check out Yorktown in particular!

Newport NC close to Cherrypoint https://www.cherrypoint.marines.mil/ hits all your want items

I have friends who like their PX a bunch.

Pretty beaches not far away.

Property taxes are not bad.

San Diego would be amazing, its the cost of living and politics that rule out that are though.

Why not St. Simons or Amelia Island? St. Mary’s is super small if memory serves.

You didn’t mention COL was a factor here. Can you give more details on your budget for a home?
