I'm planning on a move in the next 24 months but haven't decided on the state I'm moving to. Thought I'd list my wants here and get other's opinions.
I'm looking for a state with mountains, woods and water (whether it's lakes or ocean, I don't care just as long as I can live within about an hour of it I'm good.)
Decent cost of living; I don't care if it's super low, or below the national average, just as long as I don't have to take 3 jobs just to pay the bills.
I prefer to buy from small business' if possible, so if a state/city has lots of small business' that's a plus.
Low Crime Rate
Good place to raise a family, I don't have children yet but I want to have them in the next 10 years.
I like hiking and biking, so being able to do those is important.
Weather: I can't stand humidity that lasts for ages, I can take long dry heat waves better then I can humidity. Also, I'm more willing to put up with a long cold winter then I am a humid summer.
I have a job that I can do pretty much anywhere as long as I have internet so job openings aren't a big deal to me.
Any ideas? I'm in TN right now and while it's a decent state it doesn't do anything for me and I want to live somewhere else.
Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, Utah, Idaho, parts of Oregon and perhaps eastern Washington out West and parts of Pennsylvania, Upstate NY, Vermont and New Hampshire in the East.
I would say Massachusetts outside of the greater Boston area. Mass is very safe, and believe it or not, the taxes aren't too bad. If you go to western mass, you'll have small mountains and nice villages scattered about. If you head to the South Coast, you have a couple up and coming cities (NB and FR) and lots of beautiful beaches.
