Good city to get a Economics/Finance Related Job (Affordable midsize cities) (real estate)

I'll be graduating from college in Los Angeles in 2009 with an Economics degree and with a lot of Finance electives. Thing is, I don't know if I'll be able to afford a home here once that happens unless the real estate correction is allowed to occur.
What midsize cities are affordable to live in while still providing opportunities for someone with my credentials? I'm not thinking of NY, Chicago or DC since I might as well stay in LA if I go to any of those places.
