On my 3 visits to L.A. this past summer, I was expecting, with their high gas prices, to see lots of mopeds/scooters running about, but I saw so few, which really surprised me, and given their climate!

You do see a fair amount here in Las Vegas, as dangerous as it may be for them.

In what U.S. city have you seen the most of them? Florida, Texas?

Miami, specifically Miami Beach, due to the weather and high European population.

There's no question on this one: Miami and Miami Beach in particular. They are EVERYWHERE.
I think that they are culturally more acceptable as a mode of transportation for the huge number of South Americans in particular living in the Miami area. They are common for a variety of age groups and for both men and women. It's nothing to see a business man or woman in a suit riding one to work and from work.

Lots of them in Toronto. Electric scooters and gas powered motorcycles park for free on any street that has parking meters. The parking control officers ride either mountain bikes, or electric scooters.

Some retired people have electric scooters with a small cargo trailer behind it that they collect beer, liquor or wine bottles with. The Beer Store pays 10 cents per bottle or can, for returns. As a result, we don't have any cans or bottles lying around the city. Others go around and collect old computers and other electronics, to take in for cash at the recycling depot.

The city has a fleet of trucks that pick up appliances, furniture and mattresses on a two week schedule. You call 311, and make a request for a pick up at your house. 311 is also the city wide number for making a request for muncipal services, like animal control, parking permits, road repairs, and so on. 24 hours a day.

Jim B. In Toronto.

Yes, Vegas is full of them... Especially down on the strip where I obviously spend most of my time.

Pros in LV:
Very little precipitation.
Roads are in excellent condition.

Cons in LV:
Very high speed limits throughout city.
Tourists don't pay attention in cars whatsoever.

Thanks for the responses! No surprises thus far!

Again, on my 2 trips to San Francisco, my 3 trips to L.A., and a trip to San Diego, I was expecting the streets to be filled with them, but not so! Perhaps there's a reason for it! Restrictions?
