Okay so we moved to DC from Michigan. Yeah Im not feeling it, I don't want to live here forever.
I'm a bartender. Also a college student. He just graduated in May. We are expecting our first baby in November.
What we are looking for? Personally a large city or a college town. Good nightlife. Plenty of bars because I'm a bartender. Good place to raise kids. COL doesn't matter. I'm 21 and he's 23 and we are a interracial couple so somewhere open minded. I prefer a warm climate, but that's not a must I can deal with cold weather.
We having been playing the idea moving back to Michigan but looking for other ideas too.
If cost of living doesn't matter (it does actually, but just for sake of your inquiry), I see nothing wrong with Boulder, Colorado. It is one of the larger communities with the University of Colorado. Very large party scene which would satisfy your need for nightlife. Summers in Colorado can get fairly warm, but they rarely get the level of humidity that you would see on the East Coast or in Michigan. It gets cold in winter, but do not face the lake chill or moisture from a large body of water that DC or Michigan do. Mountains are right at your doorstep and provide plenty of outdoorsy entertainment.
I could suggest somewhere in the Greater Los Angeles area, but I find it awful (traffic, smog, crime, unaffordable housing, taxes, etc etc etc) and wouldn't want anyone to face the trouble we face here. The weather is nice and you can literally find anything to eat or buy, but the costs are astronomical.
Austin meets all of your requirements if you can stand the traffic, the brutal heat in the summer and relatively cold winters. The are more bars than there are people here. Safe place to raise kids, most residents wouldn't bat an eye at an interracial couple (but head an hour any direction and attitudes can be completely different).
If you move back to MI, what about Ann Arbor, East Lansing and even Royal Oak or Ferndale?
Yeah I've thought about East Lansing. I went to MSU before so that would really be the easiest option. But I don't know, the bar scene wasn't that great in my opinion. I do miss Michigan though.
No offense, but given you are a still college student, isn't it best in the shorter term to pick somewhere to live based upon the university offering a good program in your field. Once you're done you can consider picking up and moving anywhere.

Well my fiance isn't a college student, and I'm just getting a degree in social sciences because I intend going to law school, so it really doesn't matter about "good program in my field".
