I agree. The most controversy is where the Upland South meets the great lakes. I like how you made Covington and Louisville KY mostly Great lakes, but sprinkled some Upland South both in and around them Do you really think Terre Haute IN is the great plains? I don't know...
I feel like that part of Indiana is such a hybrid, I guess I feel like they identify more with St. Louis and the west than they do with Indiana?? I'm only basing that on two people I personally know from Vincennes (which funnily enough, they don't know each other) who grew up on Cardinals baseball and Blues hockey. I guess that's a silly reason because it's only sports, but that is where I see a divide.
So I have a question is New York New England or mid Atlantic? And how similar/different are the two regions? Thanks!
New York City I think is solidly Mid-Atlantic. Upstate near the borders of CT, MA, and VT I feel are strongly New English. West of the Adirondacks I feel, at least in my experience (except for accents) that that region of New York has more in common with the rest of the rust belt than it does with the city or coast.
Oh, I didn't answer your question. Of course two regions that are adjacent are going to have similarities, but I feel as though New England (my home region) is far more absorbed in the maritime culture than the Mid-Atlantic. Both regions have similarities and I think I draw the line a little past the CT border with NY because that is where I notice the differences in beaches and accents and ultimately... culture. It's definitely not a scientific method, lol. Just my perception.
If this is purely based on culture then you should lump Phoenix and vegas more so with southern california (not sure if you did or not, looks like you might have but I couldn't zoom in). The culture of Phoenix and Vegas is absolutely nothing like New Mexico or Texas. I think the rest of your map is pretty cool.
I think that Florida, Texas, Hawaii & Alaska should be listed as independent regions. They don't really fall into any of the other categories. They are a region onto themselves. Otherwise it's a pretty good map.
BTW I have always been somewhat interested in what people want to label places like WV. It doesn't fit into the northern mentality, nor are they too southern. Upper south seems fine to me.
I think Alaska, Hawaii, most of Florida and probably most of Texas (someone pointed this out earlier) are their own regions and don't really have that much in common with anyone but themselves. Alaska does have some similarities with the PNW and northern FL has similarities with the deep south as does east Texas. Hawaii is Hawaii and nothing more, which is wonderful.
No map will ever be perfect, but it was fun making it and I'm glad I've traveled enough to actually understand the cultural boundaries... somewhat.

Obviously these are my interpretations of the cultural differences in the United States and yours will surely differ.

For the most part I don't think it's too bad. Like someone else mentioned I would add another region called the Midwest or Midlands, whatever, from say KC to Indianapolis/Columbus and North to the Canadian border, excluding the Great Lakes region of course. Besides that, I don't think it's too bad, some of the edges could be argued, but close enough.
