Where did you get this from? Seems to me like some states are truly more dangerous than others. For example, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, New Jersey, Maryland and maybe California all are more dangerous than Arizona or New Mexico if you ask me. The numbers might not have reflected it but over the past 5 years I would say they def are
I think its because of states like New Mexico,Arizona,South Carolina and Alaska the crime is not all centered on a big city but more of the whole state in general,I can speak for NM and almost all of the small towns here have gangs and a fair amount of crime and poverty,in places like NJ,CA,and other states have alot of nice communities that are well off.
I was most surprised by Maryland and Louisiana but Im not too familiar with those states. Im not at all surprised by New Mexico, which is where I live. Dead bodies found on the college campus, homeless people breaking into the dorm rooms. Ive actually starting paying for parking in the parking structure every day (which gets pricey) because my car has been spray painted, cars get stolen right from the school lots (what the security guards are even on the payroll for is beyond me), windshields bashed in. The schools daily newspaper even started a section called "crime watch" because students are getting mugged in the stairwells and people are trying to commit suicide off of the parking structure. and thats just the college campus area. I can only imagine the rest of the state.
Maryland should definitely not be on the list. Sure, maybe, Baltimore's dangerous, but not the whole state! What about Annapolis, Western Maryland, and the Chesapeake Bay Area? Yeah, I think not.
I don't feel like I even need to respond to Alaska.
I was surprised that Nevada was number one. I would've expected it to be lower on the list.
