Looking for a college town somewhere in the U.S. that is considered progressive, intellectual and artsy. Where do they exist on the map?

Small college towns floating with ideas and that have an overall focus on education-- universities/small colleges as their source of influence.

Key: The town has got to be creative, where is it?

No.

They are all extinct. Major universities now promote fuhbawl, not education.

Ithaca NY, Northampton MA and Burlington VT come to mind. Ann Arbor MI could work, but it also has the major college sports aspect with it as well. Same with Berkeley CA, Boulder CO or Chapel Hill NC.

Champaign, IL. The U of I football team sucks. Though I don't know if I'd call Champaign artsy, either.

Denton, TX. Not that small but not really big, either. Our roads suck, but I like it here.
