I know there's an older thread that deals with this topic , however I think it would be good to have one that deals with the contemporary situation ( especially in light of recent events ) .

At any rate how strong are secessionist movements in the USA of 2017 ? Has anybody ever had any firsthand experiences with secessionists ? As in seen a rally or anything like that ?

I don't want this thread to solely focus on the same old issue of the Southern States seceding by the way . While I've got no objection to that issue being discussed , I'm much more interested in the issue of California secession as well as more obscure movements like the Cascadia Independence Movement .

Also I'd prefer if this thread didn't become overtly political , but that's just me .

I think the only one of significance involves California, though there could be smaller groups in places like Northern Idaho such as you mentioned (Cascadia) that don't really stand any chances.

It doesnt matter. No state can secede. Texas has thrown a fit over it for years. Its just absurd.

The California secessionist movement like most of them are pretty much a joke, the leader of yes California just moved to Russia , that secessionist movement may have been the work of a foreign government. Every state have enormous issues with stuff like medicaid and medicare and dependence om the federal government to keep those programs funded

"David A. Carrillo, the director of the California Constitution Center at the University of California, Berkeley, is not among the supporters. “California seceding is so unlikely to happen it’s a waste of our time even to discuss it,” Mr. Carrillo said in a telephone interview. “Even if the state could secede, it’s a terrible idea"

Things would have to be a great deal worse for these movements to get any headway. That being said, it's interesting to me that the state of Texas is beginning to amass its own stash of gold: Texas gold depository moves closer to reality | Fort Worth Star-Telegram

To me, for such a movement to have any real traction, it would require something cataclysmic happen such as Washington to get wiped out by a tactical nuclear weapon during the State of the Union Address. With no surviving national leadership, I could see a sudden balkanization happening. Hopefully only a pipe dream.

I do hope California leaves, they are a malignancy upon this nation with all the socialism, PC and SJW none sense. We would be better off without thier ideas, riots and violence. Good riddance I saw.

Hope you don't like beef, avocados, almonds, lettuce, tomatoes, movies or any of the largest tech companies in the world.

Maybe we should let the South secede.

We can all hope our opponents' stronghold goes away and leaves us with the rest.

Only if Texas goes with them because the Lone Star State is just as politically wackadoodle as California is.
