There are so any beautiful places in that region to choose from, it's overwhelming. What is a town that would be perfect for a family, has that cozy holiday feel, lots of snow, good amount of activity (on Christmas and New Years), good food, nice people, shops, beautiful scenery, etc? I don't mind a bigger city or medium size town. Just not boring.

Best? I dunno. You have to go pretty far north to get a white Christmas in recent years.

Besides the unpredictable snow aspect, I would vote for Portland ME.

Stowe, Vermont will give you that old timey holiday atmosphere in a classic New England village setting that Norman Rockwell would have captured. Tucked in away in the Green Mountains, there's a good chance of snow with it's white steepled churches and clapboard homes, it lends itself to that Christmas village feeling. Since it's a touristy ski resort area as well, there's plenty cool little shops and restaurants to be found. And if you want to venture out to something a little bigger, Burlington is within an hours drive of it.

Does the town have to be in New England or could it just fulfill the requirements even if it is outside of the region? I only ask because a place like Skaneateles NY offers scenery and has a Dickens Christmas celebration around Christmas time. It is about 15 Miles SW of Syracuse and about 5 Miles east of Auburn, which houses the Harriet Tubman and William Seward Homes.

Also, in the Finger Lakes Region, Seneca Falls has a New Year’s Eve ball drop: https://fingerlakes1.com/2017/01/01/...ual-ball-drop/

It also claims to be the inspiration for Bedford Falls from “It’s A Wonderful Life”: http://therealbedfordfalls.com

It is about 30 minutes west of Skaneateles and 20 minutes west of Auburn.

So, that could be a potential option.
