Today gas prices in Connecticut are at an average of $4.39, up 3 cents from yesterday. That upward spiral isn't slowing as much as I'd like it to. Yesterday I had no choice but to pay $4.70 - needless to say, I only put 5 bucks in to get me to a cheaper station!
They want us to get used to these prices before the next rounds begin. This is all part of the conditioning of the American public. Be happy with what you have or they will take it away.

Maybe its because demand is down? The number of total miles driven in the US actually decreased compared to the previous year for the first time ever.
It was $4.50 at a Chevron here in Downtown Portland. I thought to myself with all the bikes and walking and transit in this little city, there is no real noticeable decrease in traffic. I honestly think if it was $10.00 there would still be all this traffic. I heard today it was $140 a barrel now, a new record high, so who knows if it will level off soon.
I got it for $3.89 on Sunday, but i am afraid that price is getting ready to go up again. Oil topped $140 today for the first time. The reason gas stagnated is about oil traded in the $135 range for several weeks.
Much of the world has been living with high fuel cost (relative to income). We American's need to suck it up and deal with it. Take personal measures to lower your use of fossil fuels where you can. Don't continue living the Texas myth that "bigger is better". Try to imagine the pain at the pump if gasoline had the added tax that Europeans pay. Of course most Europeans (and Canadians) have a safety net for health care (far from ideal system, but better than our health system fiasco for the middle-class and lower-classes). Raise taxes to ensure most citizens don't prematurely die and/or go bankrupt, or that the most wealthy (who really influence policy in our country) have more of their income taxed for the good of the whole? Heck no! That would be nothing short of godless, left-wing, hedonistic socialism.
