Saw an article in the paper today...led me to a website... http://www.fitpregnancy.com/bestcities2007/main07/

Per the site: "Rankings were compiled for the 50 U.S. cities with the largest population. We analyzed 47 weighted categories selected by a panel of experts from the Fit Pregnancy Advisory Board, using most recent information available from government agencies, private foundations, professional associations and public databases...."

Where does your city stand on this list....

The website ranks cities and gives reasons why they rank each city a certain way. Site is good reading...

Oh snap, I am moving to the Kansas City area at the end of summer, and we're hoping to make a baby in the next year or two, and KC got terrible rating! Mostly because of the fact that there are less tax breaks (probably because the taxes are low to begin with), a lot of pregnant mothers smoke and don't breastfeed for very long, and there's a shortage of daycares. I'm not worried about any of that...I don't smoke, will definitely breastfeed, and I'll be staying at home (or my husband will stay at home, who knows). I'm glad they included why the rating was given. But still, how awful to see it got such a bad rating!
