I see a lot of apples and organges being discussed here. A few things to keep in mind:
1. Not all Democrates are "liberals"
2. Not all Republicans are conservatives.
3. Many liberals who are antiwar are also anti-abortion
4. Many Democrats are against gay marriage.
5. Not all progressives are Democrats.
6. Not all Democrats are progessives.
7. Not all Republicans support the Iraq war
8. Not all Democrats are against the death penalty.
9. (picking up on an unbelievable post on another thread today) Not all liberals fail to fly the flag in front of their homes.
Etc.
Etc.
Contrary to what Rush Limbaugh et al. (and some of the posters here!) would have us believe, Americans don't fit neatly into just 2 groups. (Too bad they don't though. Would make it a lot easier to marginalize and hate our fellow countrymen if they did. And we wouldn't have to do all that dad-gum thinkin!)

There you have it... Actually, those who suggest Salt Lake as conservative should take note: The "City of Salt Lake" is relatively liberal, look at their current mayor Rocky Anderson, one of the most liberal mayors in the country.
What's interesting is that California leads all states in the top 25 most conservative cities with 8.

Reason: change number
Dallas. There are churches non-stop and most here are Republican.
They are not, however, in the City of Dallas. The City of Dallas is becoming more liberal by the year and is becoming more democratic as well. Until their recent mayor, they never voted republican. There was a study last year that put it as the most liberal city in Texas. In fact, Kay just posted the link. Also, Kerry and Gore for that matter won the city of Dallas. Bush only one Dallas County 51%-50%.
The cities of Dallas, Houston, and especially Austin, should not be mentioned in this thread as far as a conservative republican standpoint. Their suburbs are. But the cities are not. Especially Austin. I don't understand how anyone even said Austin on purpose.
Once again, Atlanta is an overall liberal city/metro.
Well. The city of Atlanta is very liberal. But the metro sure isn't. There are some very conservative areas as well. One needs to take a look at Gwinnett and Cobb County to see that.

Maybe so, but St. Louis' suburbs are not conservative for the most part. You have St. Charles County being conservative, but that's overall it. the Metro East in Illinois is very liberal, and St. Louis County is liberal as well as St. Louis City. So as far as being the most conservative, St. Louis doesn't come even close to being one of the most conservative. It is one of the most liberal.
I find it hard to believe that Charlotte was left out. A lot of Bible thumper s come from there . The colleges , the churches , and most of the people I have met..........

Quite interesting that most of the high-crime murder capitals are on the list of "most liberal" cities. With the exception of a few...namely San Fran, Berkeley, Seattle, Providence, Minneapolis, and Cambridge....most are ghettos full of people soaking off of welfare and SSI, and using/dealing drugs and shooting each other...that's why those places are liberal...Gary, Philly, Baltimore, St Louis, Flint, Newark, Paterson, Oakland, Detroit, etc, are all gang and drug infested cities. Go figure they're liberal...."WORK" is definitely a four-letter word in those places.

When it comes to the liberal cities, once again take into account % of black population. Birmingham Alabama is an example. Most take for granted that Alabama, a conservative state would think Birmingham is similarly conservative. Not true. Birmingham is overhelming black, therefore, overwhelmingly liberal. Same with Inglewood.
Birmingham is Democratic, not really "liberal", the same can be said for Detroit and a bunch of other cities on that list.
