Living on the GA side of the FL/GA border, in JAX area?
Just a curious question: has anyone ever thought of moving to the Jacksonville, area, but in Georgia, right on the Georgia/Florida border? To be specific, I did a search and noticed that it was Charlton County in Georgia that "dips" into the northeast corner of Florida, and relatively close to I-10. I'm assuming it would only take you 30 minutes to get to Downtown Jacksonville and all that it offers.
From a financial standpoint, what benefits would you be able to take advantage of (if any) living in Georgia, but working in Jacksonville?

well, you might be able to find some property a little cheaper on the GA side but not by much...this whole area is going nuts! even way out in the sticks...the main disadvantage is the state income tax...GA has one and FL doesn't...so even if you work in jax you'd still have to pay it (but it might even out if you got low property taxes, don't know)...got a friend that lives in kingsland (just north of the border) and works downtown jax...30-35 min drive when there's no traffic problems...btw, that little "dip" of GA is even closer to jax but it's the boonies...might get some cheap land...there's a tiny town called st. george (just a crossroads really with a church, a school and a couple gas stations) there's still some little towns around jax (in FL) where you could find some bargain property if you look hard
good luck!

From a financial standpoint you would get the pleasure of having your pocket picked by the georgia government since there's a state income tax in ga.

My mom lives in Brunswick and loves it. The income tax is worth it she says. Check out St Marys. Great place. I used to live in Waycross, Ga.

I have thought about this area before. To me it has the best weather this side of Southern California.

I did excatly that in 1998 ....... I honestly should have built a home in Jax as the commute sucks, the price of gas kills the cost differce it housing, there is NOTHING to DO in GA so we drive to Jax for fun every weekend ........

Just buy in Jacksonville
You are pretty much in the middle of nowhere in that little dip... if you like the swamp then it is perfect because that's about all there is. As someone pointed out, you will have to drive about 30 mins to get anywhere.. that means shopping for basic things like groceries.. with gas at the price it is.. that will get expensive and then Georgia has the income tax. YOu'd really be better off buying closer in to Jacksonville. Whatever savings you may realise on the cost of a home in Georgia will be cancelled out by Georgia's income tax and the cost of commuting for everything.
