Hello, I am a 30 year old single mother of an elementary school child and a pre-k child. I have been going back and forth about where to move for the past year but with some family changes, I decided I am finally ready to stop thinking and just go. I hope to get into law enforcement so that has also played a part in the states that I have been looking into... I will be able to leave NJ next summer and I have been looking at a few cities in GA. I was set on Riverdale and from what I saw online liked it a lot, but a family member of mine who lives in GA told me that its a not so great area, so I have been looking at Douglassville and Stockbridge. I think I REALLY like Stockbridge as of now. I want to find a nice, quiet area where I don't have to worry about crime and the safety of my kids outside playing and a great school district. Can anyone offer any insight on these areas? I am not so familiar with GA but those two areas seem like winners so far. I am scared to death as most of my family is NJ but really want to start a new life with my kids.. thanks!

Not as of now I do not, I am still trying to decide if it is too early to apply since I know that I can not leave until August, I am also considering just landing a regular job for now so that I don't have to fly back and forth for law enforcement interviews...

Most Georgia Police Agencies are going to want you to be POST certified Before they will even look at your application.

A few cities like Atlanta do put recruits thru there police academy,
(Not sure how the $'s work, But I think you have to pay for your training thru payroll deduction, or pay them if you drop out, Fail there tests.)

Ms_Thompson24, you will get a lot more advice and responses by posting in the Atlanta room. All of these places are part of the Metro area.

And Stockbridge trumps Riverdale big time (as does Douglasville), especially when it comes to schools.

Good luck!

I used to live in Stockbridge for years. I did not like it at all. I ended up moving to Newnan because it was quiet. Now, depending on where you go to in Stockbridge, traffic won't be a big problem. Hwy 138/North Henry Blvd gets backed up REALLY bad during peak hours. I don't know how crime is anymore, but when I lived there, our neighbors were broken into repeatedly, one guy got shot, and there was a problem with people bashing mailboxes with baseball bats. XD I currently live in Fayetteville. It's south of Riverdale. I like it alot better. They have a lot of events going on in the square and the Pavilion (shopping area) isn't too far.
