Hi, I am currently living in Riverview, Florida...as a single parent its getting really hard to find something to rent in the Tampa Bay area ( all surrounding cities...Tampa, Brandon, Clearwater, St. Pete, etc.). I am really thinking about moving to Georgia. I do not know what city yet because it really is a fresh thought right now. I have a daughter that will be in 7th grade so I need to take in consideration the schools, I work in the hospital as a tech so I'm looking to continue that while in school for nursing. Can anyone please shed a little advice for me as to where is a comfortable medium for me to afford? or if you think this is a bad idea tell me..I really need advice, I just want to make the right decision for myself but most importantly for my kids (my oldest daughter would like to continue her work with publix) Thanks in advance. PLEASE HELP!

Unless you’re willing to move to a small town or rural area, I’m afraid COL and rent isn’t gonna be much cheaper in Georgia especially on the coast. Average rents in Savannah (where I live) are getting ridiculous. And anywhere in or around Atlanta is out of the question. Also, be aware that Georgia has state income tax.

You might look into Valdosta which is just across the state line on I-75. It’s a college / military / agriculture town and home to Wild Adventures theme park. Lowndes County has pretty good schools though Valdosta City does not. Valdosta State University offers nursing and there’s a pretty big hospital

How are you planning to pay for nursing school? Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program is available to new residents after a year of residency.

Also be aware, that Georgia's Ad Valorem Tax requires you pay 7% on any vehicle you bring in the state, even if you've already paid sales tax in FL on it.
