Is there a way to change you license tag without appearing in person at the tag office?

I have a alternative fuel plate because I drive a plug-in hybrid. That plate allows me to use the HOV lanes and HOT lanes at no charge, so it's great.

BUT... I don't need it anymore since I'm no longer commuting, so it's a wasted $200.

Can I exchange it for a regular plate online somehow?

I think you can request a new plate online... ...I think. I know you can get a sticker online but not 100% sure about the plate. In either case the DMV's are performing Drive Thru services as well and are mainly contact-less. Their lines have been full from what I've seen.

Didn't know that hybrid's also can use the HOT lanes for free. I knew about the HOV lane but I thought everyone had to pay for the HOT lane. I have a Prius I use as a Daily Driver. The 2 Camaro's are the toy cars so to speak. Is that $200 per year you have to pay however? If not I'd consider keeping that tag.

My car is a plug-in hybrid, so you have to have a purely electric element to your car. It's not for regular hybrids.

You do have to pay $200 per year.

My car is a lease, and it's due back in November. But actually... I think when that lease is over, I can pull the tag off and transfer it to another car. So if I plan to lease a plug-in hybrid or electric car again, it may be worth it.
