The lack of walkability is definitely a major factor. Upon moving here one of the first things I noticed was the lack of sidewalks and walkable areas.

Well with Columbus and Augusta being consolidated with their respective counties, it isn’t surprising they failed on the walkable end. I mean do you really think they are going to install sidewalks in farmland or rural areas or areas?

The walkability is a minor portion. Poorly trained doctors and lack of hospitals is the real issue.

Columbus scored its highest average in the walkability section.

And poorly trained doctors and lack of hospitals isn't the issue either. A slight doctor shortage, sure, but there's no real metric for that in the rankings. Hospital beds aren't an issue either, at least with the per capita number in the city limits, that's above the national average.

It'd be nice if wallethub actually provided all of its source data, but they don't and leave everything very opaque.

Where Columbus scored poorly is premature deaths and probably lack of insurance coverage and number of people who haven't seen a doctor in over a year. Stuff poor people do at a higher rate than not poor people.

Columbus was tied for last with a bunch of cities for the highest premature death rate, but Augusta has a higher rate so I'm not even sure how they calculated that.

Anyways like always, anytime one of these sorts of listicles comes out, all it's doing is showing which cities have the highest rates of poverty and the lowest rates of high-income earners and ranking them in descending order.

To the surprise of no one; San Francisco, the city with the most number of billionaires per capita in the US, is #1 and Brownsville, the city with the highest rate of poverty in the US, is dead last.

Can't wait for the next listicle to come out - the rankings will look exactly like this one, +/- 5 spots.

Healthgrades tells the truth. https://www.countyhealthrankings.org.../2019/overview
Look them up for the state and then county by county. In many cases it's the ratio of doctors and hospitals + this state has just about the lowest vaccination rates for children. That shouldn't be....not in 2020.

If that is the case then why would Augusta rank so low? It has a high number of hospitals and physicians for a city its size and also has the state medical university. I think this has more to do with lifestyles of the population of these areas such as regular exercise, obesity, diabetes, and predominance of unhealthy fast food places versus healthy food choices. I can say I have never seen such a high concentration of fast food restaurants, buffets and Waffle Houses in one place.

According to the link Augusta still is behind in the ratio of doctors to people and especially to dentists to people.
