Unfortunately (as it seems to me) this election wasn't fought on what the candidates were likely to do should they be elected, but the question the electorate were required to answer is: "Which is the least worst option?"
One side did a better job than the other.
On Tuesday morning:
The Democrats had a majority in the Senate.
The Republicans had a majority in the House of Representatives.
Barack Obama was President.
In Wednesday morning:
The Democrats had a majority in the Senate.
The Republicans had a majority in the House of Representatives.
Barack Obama was President.
And a number of advertisers, PR men and hangers-on were $6 Billion. (Yes, that's BILLION ) richer.
Obama wasn't elected, Romney was rejected.
The vote was almost a 50-50 split, so neither side has an overwhelming mandate.
Is this the way US elections are going to go in future? Will it be the choice between 'the lesser of two evils' (bad for everybody) or are you going to find some real leaders?

Exactly, billions later and not much changed and even though Obama said he is willing to work with the other side he is off hopping around different countries instead of talking to leaders about the fiscal cliff. Nothing changed.
Its because people like to vote for their direct issue, rather than the US's problems as a whole. There is no common vision.
Also aside from the president on those ballots, everything else is pretty much retarded and trivial, and for as long as it can be overturned by some judge, it makes voting useless!
People think that a President can come in, wave a magic wand, and fix everyone's problems. Not just their problems, EVERYONE's problems. This is what the Republican supporters tried to use to their advantage in the election....their party line was "Obama hasnt fixed everyone's problems, so he must be doing a bad job, lets go for change".
Change and IMPROVEMENT are two entirely different things. We are a quick change, knee jerk society, we are a society that chants for the backup QB after the starter makes 2 incomplete passes in a row.
