Is the United States a country based off a Premier-City System or a Primate-City System?
A) Premier-City is a another way to say the universally agreed upon top dog. The leader, the best, the top place, the highest order, a city in its own league, of no equivalents. It is the country's undeniable top force but it does not run all crucial aspects of the country's framework (I.E. government, industries, political control, so on).
B) Primate-City is the economic, political, by far away uncontested population center of the country and is disproportionately larger than other population centers, economies, or political powers in its country (in fact makes up a large chunk of the country's economy, population, and political power). It is the workhorse, the lifeline, the absolute pinnacle of an entire country's operations. It, like premier cities, has no equal within its country, but unlike premier cities these primate cities largely go unchallenged as the next closest city is several tiers down and it takes combining 4-5 other cities just to match this one. If something happened to a primate city, something that causes it to stop functioning properly, the entire country goes through a complete meltdown socially, economically, politically, possibly environmentally is its a natural disaster.
I thought this question would be interesting to see what people say and what arguments people want to make.
Do you believe the United States has a Premier-City setup or a Primate-City setup in regards to New York? Anyone think New York is challenged by another city? If so, where and what could prevent New York from being viewed as unanimously the premier and/or primate city of the United States?

I'd say the U.S. population is dispersed enough that you'd consider the premier city system more applicable. Metropolitan New York is home to just 7% of all Americans. France, on the other hand, has more than 20% of its population in Metropolitan Paris, and Iceland has about 70% of its population in Metropolitan Reykjavik. New York is America's premier city, but the US does not begin and end with New York.
